Real Estate Investing for Retirement

We have all seen Carlton Sheets and other real estate gurus on TV pitching how real estate is your ticket to retirement. But should real estate investing be a part of your retirement plan?

In a recent article titled How You Can Use Real Estate To Fund Your Retirement, we explore that very thing.  For most people, the house they choose to buy will be the single largest investment they will make during their life. Many investment experts will tell you that purchasing a home is an example of a positive liability. Even though you have to make payments on it each month, it tends to appreciate in value, while things like cars, clothes, and electronics will depreciate in value. Next to the stock market, real estate is one of the most popular investments in the United States. When the real estate market is down, the stock market will generally be up, and vice versa.

Although right now both seem to be down together based on yesterdays news that existing home sales were down 4% last month and the amount of real estate for sale went up. Generally speaking real estate is a solid investment that if done right, literally can pay for itself through rental income, but it requires a lot of time in repairs and management.
