Life after debt.

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Scrimp and save. Stretch all ends (are there only two?) till they meet. Somehow. Yet another month where despite your best efforts, your negative balance grows. And the only bright spot to look forward to is the time when all this is over, and a handsome income awaits.

And then, the day dawns. Over with college, and starting to earn. The days of pizza and leftovers, second hand stuff and poky corners are behind. Yes, there is a pile of debt; but with the fat paycheck, it’s just a matter of time. And even after paying off the instalment, there’s much more left - many times what you had earlier, to get you through the month.

None of this is new - or different. Every college grad goes through both phases; of penny pinching, followed by affluence.

What changes, is how you react to it. Are you going to make up for the years of economy, with a grand splurge? Or do you continue to keep your wallet zipped?

The choices you make here determine where you’ll land up. Just over broke, or well set for life.
